Halab Vase
This vase is a one-off piece, engraved with imagery of the ancient city of Aleppo (Halab in Arabic), Solem’s ancestral homeland. This piece was built using a combination of coil and slab-building and the surface was marked by using the Japanese technique of Mishima to fill engravings with pigment.
High-fire red stoneware, white pigment in engravings, clear glaze (interior). Watertight. Stone-like surface.
